The Little Things...
There are very few things that happen on a day to day basis of which I can say, "That made my day!" I know - pessimistic outlook, blah, blah, blah - it is just how it is. Very few things can make me that happy, BUT when they do happen - they tend to be that smallest, most insignificant, lame little things that ALL of YOU would think were everyday joys and blessing. The biggest "That made my day!" moment happened just today and it involved a TV.
Now to feel the full effect you must know that I enjoy TV. Some of my greatest joys and longest tear-shedding-laughs stem from the TV. The other thing that you must know is that I am poor. So when my roommates brother left on a mission and bequeathed his TV to us for two years, we smiled and ran with it. The Sharp Linitron (first made in 1972) was embraced with open arms though we were careful not to be taken out by the 2 giant knobs for channel changing or snap off the little tiny one that turned Lini on and off and also controlled the volume. Lini has served us well for almost 2 years now with the xbox/dvd player and vcr all hooked up through an elaborate system of wires and routers. The endless cycle of up and down off of the comfort of the couch to turn the tv off, on or up or down. Oh, the insanity of it all And we were happy.
Then my boss moved. It seems insignificant and unrelated, but in that move she bought a new tv - if a 42" plasma can even be called that - a tv. It's more like a tv on steriods and some day I will have one too. And out of the move came a TV with a remote and my boss gave it to me! I brought it home today...
As I sit here watching the "new" tv, it made my day. Maybe not the greatest tv of all time, but a close second. I just turned it down a little (because who knew A&E was such a loud channel?) and I didn't have to move from the comfort of the second couch cusion on the right. It really made my day:) Thank goodness for the little things!
